General idea:
Through his experience of weekly teaching in Belgium (Frissefolk), his research into the relationship dance/music as a dancer and a musician, and his long experience of dancing all around Europe, Pierre will explore with you folk music secrets, between understanding and pure personnal feelings. The whole 3 of those workshops are parts of one complete and coherent tool to personalize your dancing and go further into the music. 3 afternoons to see what is to be taken and played with in the music by the dancers, how to express that physically within the limits and richness of some precise dances, and finally and probably most important, how to share all that with your partner and play together with the music.
Pierre is proposing this progression to us in gradual difficulty, and will start working on the interpretation potential of valse, then growing into the incredibly rich possibilities of rythmic and structure variations of the scottish, and finishing on the subtile and sensible univers of mazurka, combining interpretation of the steps and rythmic variations to play around timing quality.

Vals (level: begonners, intermediate and advanced)
First step of this journey, the workshop on valse is adressed to absolutly everybody : Pierre’s way to approach valse’s step will be something new for both confirmed or brand new passionate dancers and a perfect way to built up the upcoming work on musicality. In the first part of the workshop, we’ll get to feel what it is to interprete the music with simple commun steps. You’ll have the opportunity to experience the deep triangle formed by you, your partner and the music. In the second part, we’ll initiate the work on structure variation through creative adaptations of the valse step.

Scottish (level: intermediate and advanced)
Working on the scottish is perfect to get confident with the mecanisms of rythmic and structure variations. Only prerequisites : being really confident with the scottish steps and structure ! Indeed, we’ll fool around with this structure, modeling it to our imagination and to the propositions of the music within caracteristics of this dance. Two important elements we’ll get to through this workshop :
- being able to hear, recognise and express the rythmic variations proposed in the music without getting lost in the dance
- getting the leading/following technics that allow you to comunicate on this playing in a creative way

Mazurka (level: advanced)
Final and harder step of our progression. This workshop is mostly adressed to rather experienced dancer. During this afternoon, we’ll work on the subtilities and the incredible emotional potential of the grey time area that exists around the precise beat. We’ll see how to use this in the mazurka within the caracterestics that makes it a mazurka. The idea will be to interprete the steps in time matters with the music, sometime so much that the structure gets to be played with as well.
